Urea Formaldehyde (Plastic Resin glue)
Urea-formaldehyde, also known as urea-methanal, named so for its common synthesis pathway and overall structure, is a non-transparent thermosetting resin or plastic, made from urea and formaldehyde heated in the presence of a mild base such as ammonia or pyridine. These resins are used in adhesives, finishes, MDF, and molded objects.
It was first synthesized in 1884 by Hölzer, who was working with Bernhard Tollens. In 1919, Hanns John (1891–1942) of Prague, Czechoslovakia obtained the first patent for urea-formaldehyde resin.
pot life가 길고, 물과 유기용매에 내성이 있는 아주 강한 결합을 형성하므로
무늬목이나 bent lamination 작업에 특히 적합하다.
접착면은 나중에 늘어나지 않으며, 82도 정도의 온도까지에는 영향을 받지 않는다.

Open time: Pot life는 수 시간. open time은 온도와 혼합에 따라 달라서 5-30분.
Clamp time: 분말형은 13시간까지, 액상은 5시간까지.
내수, 내열, 내유기용매성: 물과 유기용매에 대한 내성이 강함. 82도까지 열에 영향이 없음.
세척: 물
건강 및 안전: 포르알데히드(포르말린)이 들어있음. 피부와 폐를 자극하며, 발암물질일 가능성이 있음. 장갑과 보안경을 착용하고, 혼합과 사용시 방독면을 착용할 것.
보존 기간: 1년까지, 기온이 높으면 짧아짐.
비용: 건조형은 1 파운드에 $6, 액상은 1 갈론에 $30 정도.
Hide Glue
Hide는 소나 말 같은 동물의 가죽을 뜻한다.
따라서 hide glue는 여기서 추출한 단백질로 만든 wood glue를 말한다.
아마도 우리나라에서 전통적으로 사용하던 아교와 비슷한 것일 것으로 짐작한다.

최적 용도: 악기나 고가구 같은 접착과 분리가 필요한 경우. Hammer veneering
Open time: 액상은 10분, 건조상은 온도에 따라 다름.
Clamp time: 액상은 12시간, 건조상은 그 이하.
내수, 내열, 내유기용매성: 물과 온도에 대한 내성이 약함. 유기용매에는 강함.
세척: 물
건강 및 안전: 비교적 독성이 낮음. 피부 자극은 있을 수 있음. 먼지를 흡입할 경우 기도를 자극할 수 있음.
보존 기간: 건조형은 습기에 노출되지 않는 한 무제한. 액상은 1 년.
비용: 건조형은 1 파운드에 $10, 액상은 10 온스에 $9 정도.
